GLENGORMLEY residents have appealed for calm following a graffiti attack in the Church Road and Glebe Road West areas.

Republican and sectarian graffiti was scrawled on walls, junction boxes and on the road in the area at around 2.30am on Wednesday, August 17.

Residents have said the attack was an attempt to incite violence between opposing sections of the community. An alleyway, which it is believed was cleaned recently of graffiti was also covered in markings.

Those living in the area said the graffiti was “disgusting” and said it was aimed at stoking tensions in the area.

“People come up into the area in the middle of the night to do this solely to pick a fight with the other side,” said one resident.

“This has happened in the past and what followed was several nights’ violence and I would hope that we have gotten past this by now.”
