A BALLYCLARE residents’ group has set up an online forum for people to share concerns and complaints about Newtownabbey Borough Council.

Last year, members of the Avondale Residents’ Group were incensed at the council’s decision to build a play park just yards from their homes on Avondale Drive, despite the results of a public consultation exercise showing that the majority of local residents wanted the facility sited at the other side of the Sixmilewater River Park.

Now the angry ratepayers have set up a page on social networking site Facebook, detailing how the council’s controversial decision has affected their lives, pointing to increased traffic in the area, parking problems and persistent incidents of anti-social behaviour. Its content is also less than complimentary to local councillors.

The site - ‘Newtownabbey Borough Council Not Fit For Purpose?’ - has only attracted a few comments so far, but those behind the project describe it as “a focal point for residents and visitors to Newtownabbey to let the Borough Council know what we really think of them.”
