THE long-running saga of building a park and ride at Sandyknowes roundabout has been raised again - and once again, the matter has been put on hold.
The Roads Service lodged plans to build the park and ride on land on the Ballyhenry Road, just off Dorchester Drive, in 2003. However, almost 10 years on the scheme has still not progressed through Planning.
At Monday night’s council meeting, the Planning Service again deferred the matter.
A Planning Service official said there was still a “considerable” level of objection to the plans and the potential for anti-social behaviour on the site.
He said: “The Roads Service has said it is happy with the access to the site. NI Water has said there is no risk to flooding on the site - as obviously it would replace grassland with a hard cover - and there is not evidence that the scheme would devalue people’s homes.
“However, the level of objection is significant.”
At the meeting, Antrim Line’s Alderman John Blair asked for the Planning Service to re-examine the original traffic survey figures.
