CORONATION Street star Jack P. Shepherd - better known to soap fans as David Platt - officially opened Ballyclare’s new Poundland store during a family fun day on Saturday, October 6.

The actor got the celebrations under way by posing for pictures and signing autographs for his fans.

The event saw many lucky shoppers win a selection of prizes and vouchers which they could exchange for Poundland goodies.

Children were treated to free balloons and sweets and Poundland’s in-store DJ provided entertainment throughout the day.

The opening of the Main Street outlet by Europe’s biggest single price discount retailer has created more than 20 full-time and part-time jobs.

Store Manager, Jamie Wade, commented: “I’m thrilled that the people of Ballyclare turned out in their hundreds to support their new Poundland store, which has created 22 new jobs for local residents.

“Shoppers enjoyed the entertainment and had a great time meeting Jack P. Shepherd while browsing for bargains. It was a great first day in what I am sure will be a very successful future for the store.”
