NEWTOWNABBEY councillor Gerry O’Reilly said he was “heartened” after a show of support from the community following a number of attacks on his Belfast home.
Politicians and community workers gathered in the New Lodge area of north Belfast on Tuesday, January 3, to demonstrate their disgust following a series of attacks on the Sinn Fein man’s home.
On Christmas Eve flammable liquid was sprayed on councillor O’Reilly’s car in an attempted to torch it and on December 27 the windows of his home were attacked - the 20th such attack within the past two years.
“I’m pleased for the level of support there was out there,” Mr O’Reilly told a Belfast newspaper.
“We really have been inundated with goodwill messages, texts and gifts from people and it has been really heartening.”
