Mayor, Fraser Agnew has urged people to avoid disused quarries as they present a major safety hazard.
The council has stepped up a campaign to highlight the dangers of local quarries and has erected signs and extra fencing around sites that may pose a potential danger.
The move comes after two people died recently in a disused quarry in Co Down.
Mayor Agnew said: “In the current good weather quarries can seem like attractive places for young people to keep cool.
“But quarries have many hidden dangers and are not safe places and I urge parents to be aware of where their children are this summer.”
