GLENGORMLEY Fire Cadets have renamed their highest award in memory of former Cadet Neil McFerran, who died alongside his friend Aaron Davidson in a tragic carbon monoxide poisoning incident in Castlerock last August.

The outstanding cadet of the year will now receive the Neil McFerran Memorial Shield - a lasting tribute in recognition of Neil’s exceptional contribution to the Fire Cadets.

The first recipient of the new award, 2011 Cadet of the Year Stephen Cummings, was presented with the shield by Neil’s proud parents and Chief Fire Officer Peter Craig at Glengormley Fire Cadets’ annual Parents’ Night on Monday, May 23.

A delighted Stephen received the ‘Neil McFerran Cadet of the Year Award’ from Catherine and Johnny McFerran for his outstanding commitment and diligence over the past year as a member of Glengormley Fire Cadets.
