The fifth annual Newtownabbey Borough Council ‘Celebrating Success’ community graduation evening took place recently at Mossley Mill.

The event was held to recognise the achievements of the many representatives of local community organisations who have completed training organised by the council’s Community Development Section over the past year.

More than 70 people attended the various courses which included Child Protection, First Aid, Food Safety in Catering, Understanding Finances, Effective Committee Meetings, Social Media, Community and Volunteer Fundraising and Evaluation Tools.

Welcoming guests to the event, Mayor Billy Webb said that demand for the council’s community development courses has grown steadily in recent years.

“I am delighted that we are here tonight to celebrate our own local talent and recognise your personal achievements during this year. In fact, over the course of the evening we will celebrate the success of over 70 people who attended our courses since September 2011.

“We are committed to supporting the development of skills and expertise within our community and voluntary sector to enable it to continue to grow and expand,” he commented.

Further Community Capacity Building courses will be starting in September 2012. Anyone involved in community work within the borough who would be interested in attending should register their interest by contacting Dawn Leonard or Wendy Donaldson on Tel: 028 9034 0060.
