A RATHCOOLE woman who has been battling depression for more than half a decade has published a book of poetry about love, life and a wide variety of other topics, including mental health.
Susan Logan, a 37-year-old mother-of-four, self-published ‘Love, Life and Everything In Between’ through CreateSpace.com, and the 188-page anthology recently went on sale on amazon.co.uk and the CreateSpace website.
“The book is a collection of poetry covering various topics which affect the society we live in today. Topics such as addictions and mental health are included which are perhaps topics that some people have never thought about or come across before. The aim of the book is to show that others have been through similar issues.
“I am not a counsellor or a professional, but through personal experiences I hope that when reading my poetry people can connect with the emotions portrayed,” she explained.
Susan, who is originally from Ballymena, has been living in Newtownabbey for the past five years.
“I have always enjoyed reading and listening to poetry, but never envisaged myself as being a poet. However, over the past six or seven years, the writing of poetry has been my salvation from the depths of depression. The poems in my book cover many topics from life and death to addictions and mental health.
“I regularly share my poems on my Facebook page ‘Susie’s little inspirations’ which is where the inspiration for putting my poetry together as a book came from. A lot of people were sharing them and liking them and going on at me that I should put them into a book, so I eventually did it.”
She added: “Many of my poems have been written from a personal perspective and some from observations or my interpretations of a particular topic.
“The book covers everything under the sun – mental illness, drugs, alcohol, love, life. It really does cover everything, hence the name – Love, Life and Everything In Between.”
Paperback copies of Love, Life and Everything In Between are available online at amazon.co.uk priced £14.44.
