A VIABLE pipe bomb device found at the Homebase store in Longwood Retail Park on Monday morning (June 6) was designed to cause disruption and fear, it has been claimed.
The police said the device was discovered in a loading area behind the DIY store on Longwood Road.
The security alert began on Monday morning after police received reports that a suspicious object had been left close to the store.
Army bomb experts were called to examine the device, which police described as “viable”.
The area was cordoned off for a short period, causing some disruption, and the device was removed for examination.
Newtownabbey Mayor, alderman Billy Webb said he was disgusted with the incident.
