Thief steals from cemetery visitor

POLICE have issued an appeal for information after a woman had her handbag stolen while she was visiting a grave at Carnmoney Cemetery.

The bag was stolen from the woman’s car, which was parked at the Prince Charles Way cemetery, at around 4.30pm on Thursday, December 27. It’s understood the bag contained a number of items including a Nokia mobile phone.

Macedon councillor John Scott described the theft as “absolutely disgraceful”.

“It’s the sort of thing you wouldn’t even think about happening in a cemetery where people are visiting the graves of loved ones, but it just shows how low some people will stoop, even at Christmas.

“If anyone has any information about who was responsible I would ask them to pass it on to the police,” the UUP man commented.

Investigating officers can be contacted at Newtownabbey Station on 0845 600 8000. Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously via the Crimestoppers charity on freephone 0800 555 111.
