POLICE have made an appeal for witnesses after lead with an estimated value of £20,000 was stolen from Glengormley High School.
It’s understood the lead flashing was removed from the roof of the Ballyclare Road school sometime over three nights between September 5 and 7, however details of the incident were only made public this week.
The stolen lead has since been replaced with a lead substitute that has no marketable value.
Police believe the thefts occurred between 12.45am and 4am each night and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
“Police would encourage anyone living in close proximity to a school to note any suspicious or unusual activity and to contact police immediately. People should not take action to confront possible criminals - that responsibility belongs to police - but public information is vital to helping local police respond effectively and deal with those responsible for such crimes against the community,” a PSNI spokesperson commented.
Investigating officers can be contacted at Newtownabbey Station.
