Three men convicted of benefit fraud

A RATHCOOLE man has been convicted at Belfast Magistrates Court of claiming almost £500 in benefits he wasn’t entitled to.

At a hearing on Tuesday (May 1), David Henderson (23), of Bencrom Park, was given 100 hours community service and ordered to pay court costs of £25 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance totalling £496.

At the same court on Tuesday (May 8), two more Newtownabbey men were convicted of benefit fraud.

Stephen Jones (31), of Abbots Drive, was fined £240 and ordered to pay court costs of £37 for wrongful encashment of Jobseekers Allowance and Employment and Support Allowance totalling £445.

Robert Clarke (21), of Farmley Gardens, was fined £75 and ordered to pay court costs of £22 for wrongful encashment of Employment and Support Allowance totalling £83.

All three men are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
