Traders invited to have their say on regeneration plans

BUSINESS owners in Glengormley are being invited to have their say on the latest phase of the town’s regeneration strategy at a traders’ meeting next week.

Traders will be consulted at the meeting on the potential focus of the next funding allocation of £150,000 for the north side of Glengormley as detailed in the town centre regeneration strategy.

“Decisions on the focus of the next funding package will be discussed and agreed in principle,” explained Nigel Hamilton, Secretary of the Traders’ Association and Chamber of Commerce.

“The Executive Committee had agreed not to take any final decisions without first discussing with members, and to this end traders will be contacted on an individual basis to make them aware of the focus of funding as directed by DSD and the Regeneration Committee. We want everyone who has an interest in the trading community in Glengormley on board.”

Brendan Carlin, who runs his business from Glengormley and co-chairs the Regeneration Committee with Councillor Pat McCudden, added: “We are only too aware of traders’ views and their desire to be kept informed of ongoing progress. I gave the council officers my clear undertaking to rally views and inform traders before the process goes ahead.”

The traders’ meeting will take place in the Thunderdome Cafe, Antrim Road on Thursday, January 26 at 6pm.
