Detailing the proposals, a TransportNI spokesperson said: “In the main, the restrictions currently in place in the town will generally remain as they are except for the following; All time limited parking will be for a maximum period of one hour. At present there are both one hour and 30 minute maximum periods in place.

“This will rationalise the time limited parking bays and remove any confusion about how long a motorist may park.”

The spokesperson continued: “New time limited parking bays are proposed for the south west side of the Rashee Road and on both sides of the Doagh Road between Foundry Lane and The Square.

“New double yellow lines are proposed for parts of Avondale Avenue, the south east side of the Ballynure Road and Mill Road.”

The spokesperson added: “New single yellow line proposed for a short section of the Rashee Road opposite Ballyclare High School.

“There will be a number of new disabled parking bays provided along with the repositioning of one.”

Welcoming the introduction of the new disabled parking bays, Progressive Unionist Party representative Scott McDowell said: “I am absolutely delighted about the disabled parking bays announcement. This was something we had contacted Transport NI about last year after I was contacted by a disabled driver who had concerns about the lack of disabled parking provision in the town.”
