TRIBUTES have been paid to the 12-year-old Hazelwood Integrated College pupil who died after falling off a scrambler bike in north Belfast on Sunday night.

Daniel Mooney, from the Ardoyne area of the city, sustained serious head injuries after coming off the bike he was riding pillion on in the Mountcoole area.

Daniel was not wearing a helmet. He was found lying under a parked car and taken to hospital where he died a short time later.

Tributes have been paid to the popular boy who once represented Ireland at Crufts as a junior dog handler. Friends said Daniel would often be followed by his beloved rottweiler, Lady, whereever he went.

Hazelwood Integrated headteacher Eileen Lenahan, expressed her sympathy to Daniel’s family on behalf of the school’s governors, staff and pupils.
