Two released in police attempted murder investigation

Two men arrested in connection with the attempted murder of police officers on the Loughshore towpath were released unconditionally.

The men, aged 23 and 42, were detained on Tuesday (April 16) in relation to an explosion on the path alongside the M5 last month.

A device exploded close to three police officers who had gone to the area after receiving a phone call designed to lure them to the location.

The M5 motorway was closed between Hazelbank and Greencastle for almost 24 hours during the subsequent security alert.
