Police in Newtownabbey arrested two suspected burglars during the early hours of Thursday morning (August 4) following a call from a resident in the Cherrylands area reporting suspicious activity.

Officers attended and arrested the two suspects, aged 16 and 18, for burglary and other offences including possession of an offensive weapon, possession od Class B drugs and breach of bail.

Detective Sergeant Emme Wallace said: “We are grateful for the quick reporting of the Cherrylands resident and will be making further enquiries about this incident and a report earlier in the night from a person in the Monkstown area who saw two males checking doors of homes in the area - it is believed they were travelling in a black Renault Megane.

“We would be keen to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity involving either two males and/or a black Renault Megane in the Newtownabbey area. You can contact us on the non-emergency number 101 and quote reference 118 of August 4.

“We would also like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep all doors and windows closed and locked, not just at night.”
