NEWTOWNABBEY Borough Council is considering spending £20,000 updating two play parks in the Rathcoole estate.
The local authority is currently consulting with community representatives about how they think the money should be spent to improve the play areas at The Diamond and Rathcoole People’s Park.
Phil Hamilton, Chairman of Rathcoole Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership, welcomed the proposed investment at both sites, but stressed that the council should be consulting with children and young people in the estate about what they would like to see the money spent on.
“I think it’s important to ask young people what they would like. That way they’ll have a sense of ownership of whatever improvements are made to the two parks,” he commented.
