MINDLESS vandals have targeted a new sculpture in Glengormley Park commemorating the historic achievements of celebrated aviator Lilian Bland - just days before the completed artwork was due to be officially unveiled.

The metal sculpture depicts Bland’s biplane ‘The Mayfly’, which took flight at Carnmoney Hill in 1910. The artwork is designed to be a lasting legacy to her amazing achievement in becoming the first woman in the world to design, build and fly her own plane.
