A number of homes along the Doagh Road, close to the former Nortel factory, were evacuated because of a security alert on Monday morning.
The Doagh Road, between Monkstown Avenue and Monkstown Road was closed for most of the morning while army bomb experts attended the scene.
Homes in the Cheerylands/Doagh Road area were evacuated while buses were diverted along alternate routes.
The alert ended just after 11.30am after a controlled explosion was carried out on the device.
Police declared the device as “viable”.
