Elderly and vulnerable residents in Ballyduff have been told to be on their guard over distraction burglaries.
The warning comes after OAPs living in the estate were targeted by thieves last month.
The incidents happened on Sunday, September 30, but details were only confirmed by police this week.
At around 2am two men aged about 18 called at an elderly woman’s home in Ballyfore Gardens.
One of the men requested to use the bathroom while one remained outside speaking with the resident.
After they left the woman discovered that money had been taken. The woman was not injured.
A couple living nearby were reportedly visited by the pair but they left empty-handed.
Police in Newtownabbey have urged anyone with information to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
Alternatively people can provide details anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The South and East Antrim Community Federation said people living in the surrounding area also need to be wary of anyone they do not know calling to their home.
A spokesman added: “We want to warn the elderly not to open their door to strangers and to ring the police if they see anything or anyone suspicious.”
