THIS is the masked and armed thug who confronted staff and stole cash and cigarettes during a robbery of a petrol filling station near Rathcoole on Sunday night.

Shortly after 9.30pm on February 27, the man entered the O’Neill Road business and brandished what has been described as “a big knife”, before making his demands.

The man was confronted by a member of staff but was able to make his getaway with a “reasonable” sum of cash and cigarettes.

Three staff were in the shop at the time of the incident, and business owner Richard Lusty said that while no-one was physically injured, they were all left shaken by their ordeal.

He said: “This is just some scumbag who robbed us.

“This is not the first time we have been robbed, but it is the first time in years since it last happened.

“The man walked into the shop with his hood up and his face covered before pulling out a big knife and demanding cash.

“I have been robbed myself and it is a very traumatic experience.”

Mr Lusty said the robbery would not force him out of business and the garage was open as usual on Monday morning.

The police are investigating and can be contacted on 0845 600 8000.
