Phoenix Supply gas prices will drop by 8.5 per cent today (Sunday, April 1) - welcome news for Newtownabbey household and small business customers.
The price cut, announced last month, is due to a recent fall in the wholesale cost of gas.
The average household gas bill will fall by £51 annually to give an average annual domestic gas bill of around £550.
Rival gas company firmus energy has said that it will continue to honour its commitment to domestic credit customers to provide 10 per cent cheaper natural gas than Phoenix for the first year after a customer switches, and five per cent cheaper for the second year.
Welcoming the price drop, East Antrim MLA Alastair Ross said: “Clearly any reduction which means that households will be paying less for their energy supply is welcome news, and this reduction will go some way in helping already hard-pressed families across the province.”
