WORLD renowned chef Ken Hom OBE cooked up a Chinese New Year banquet for Linda Cass and her Newtownabbey family after she won first prize in his hugely popular ‘Big Flavour Experience’ competition.

Mrs Cass and her family beat off 10,000 entrants in the competition organised by Tesco to win the coveted prize, which consisted of an opportunity to observe Ken Hom rustle up a Chinese New Year banquet at an exclusive London location.

The lucky Cass family were flown over to London last week to watch the Cantonese chef rustle up a range of traditional dishes to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit. Ken’s culinary delights were then served up to Linda and her ‘guests’, namely her husband Robert, and daughter Nicola (15) and son Stuart (14) - both pupils of Belfast High.

Linda said: “I was absolutely delighted to win the competition to observe the world’s leading authority on Chinese and Asian cuisine cook. It was a fantastic prize as it allowed me to share the experience with my family.

“Ken was a lovely man, very down to earth, and we laughed a lot with him during the cookery demonstration. He was very friendly, and asked a lot of questions about the children and about our family’s diet and nutrition.

“He made us Spring Rolls from scratch, with pork and prawns and a dipping sauce, and then cooked Sweet and Sour Chicken and a Special Fried Rice, and we toasted the Chinese New Year with champagne to go along with all the delicious food.”
