Customers of Northern Bank in Abbeycentre Shopping Centre will soon be able to do their shopping and their banking on a Saturday as from June 23 the bank will be open all day on Saturdays.
Northern Bank will be open from 9.30am until 4.30pm every Saturday offering both a counter service and appointments.
Branch Manager Brenda Kerr said: “Consumer habits are changing and as a retailer, we want to be able to offer our customers more choice and flexibility in terms of when they visit their bank. Getting to a branch during the week can be difficult for some customers because of work or family commitments and Saturday mornings can be as hectic as weekdays for many families.
“Our new opening hours will make it easier and more convenient for our customers to do their banking when it suits them and not the other way around.”
Mark Stewart, Manager of Abbeycentre has welcomed the enhanced service, and said: “This is a very positive development for both our customers and retailers in the centre and indeed for north Belfast. In the current economic climate, being able to do your banking and discuss your financial needs at a time that suits busy lifestyles can only be good news for consumers. As the first local bank to open all day on a Saturday, Northern Bank is also playing an important part in increasing our Saturday footfall in the centre. The longer opening hours will be a boost to both Northern Bank customers and other retailers in the centre.”
One such retailer is Sheila Proctor, Manager of Dunnes Stores, who said: “Northern Bank is clearly responding to what customers want and need. From a retailer’s point of view any initiative that attracts footfall into the centre is good news and something to be welcomed.”
Customer George Proctor, meanwhile, added: “I see this as a very positive move from Northern Bank and one that will really benefit me. I have an extremely busy lifestyle and often find it hard to find the time for bank appointments during the week. Now I can call in to the branch or make an appointment when I’m already in the centre doing my shopping on a Saturday.”
