DROMORE Athletic Club's senior athletes travelled last weekend to a wet and windy Strabane for the 10K road race and didn't let the weather conditions deter their efforts over the undulating course as their results showed.
The Dromore women got among the prizes with their excellent performances. Gillian Burns lead the way with first place in the O35 catergory in a new PB of 39m22s, followed by Mandy Russell who was second in the O45 in 45m26s and Mary Mackin second in the O50 with a time of 47m45s.
There were good runs from the men as well from Michael Stewart, 15th in the male open (38m23s), Paul Cain 17th (39m19s - PB), and James Phillips who was 32nd on his club debut (45m25s).
Meanwhile at the Antrim Forum the first half of the All Ireland Age Group Championships were being held for the first time in the North with the second part next week in Tullamore, Co Offaly.
Tom Jess had a great competition in his first All Ireland, taking sixth place in the shot putt final (boys born 1994) with a big new PB of 11.33mts.
Emma Mitchell will also be very happy with her first track final, having a great run for sixth in a high quality 800m race for girls born 1993.
