BANBRIDGE Town U 10's produced a sterling second half performance to win this hard fought and keenly contested encounter with the Bangor side.
The Juniors went into this game in fine form with confidence high but were rocked by the positive and en
ergetic start from the visitors. The game was barely a minute old when James Cromie had to be on his guard to smoother a rasping shot from the away side.
Banbridge were taking time to settle and at times during the early exchanges were finding it difficult to string any sort of pass together and when Castle broke away Cromie again saved well.
The visitors' confidence was soaring and it was no surprise that they took the lead. Banbridge conceded a free kick just outside the box and from the resulting kick the ball was perfectly placed over the keepers head.
Still Castle pressed forward but for all their possession couldn't find another goal and only a wonder save from Cromie diving full stretch to his right prevented the away team from going two up.
As half time approached Banbridge had a chance to draw level but Stuarty Hamilton's free kick struck the top of the bar and went over. The half time whistle brought a welcome relief for a lacklustre home team who were lucky not to be further behind.
A stern half time talk from the manager was needed and whatever was said it worked wonders as the Juniors started the second half like bulls in a china shop! From the off they found their rhythm and a fine run and shot from Ben Redpath made the away keeper work for the first time.
Ryan Angus then had a half chance to equalise but his cheeky flick drifted wide of the near post.
The Castle keeper then dealt comfortably with another Angus shot but the crowd sensed that a goal was near and so it was. Man of the Match Hamilton swung in a corner only for the keeper to parry the ball onto a defender who couldn't help but to turn it into his own net.
The relief was there for all to see but with the home side still settling after the equaliser Castle nearly snatched the lead again.
A through ball found their forward one on one with Billy Campbell but the substitute keeper done well forcing him wide and his certain goal bound shot was miraculously cleared off the line by Neil Dillon who somehow got back to defend. A super piece of defending and the turning point of the match.
The Juniors were now finding the form that was nonexistent in the first half and they took the lead when a poor clearance from the Castle keeper went straight to Cormac Downey.
Downey, with his quick thinking, attempted to lob the back tracking keeper but as the ball came down it bounced off an inrushing defender straight to the predatory Angus who smashed the ball into the net from the edge of the box. All credit to Downey for his piece of intuition.
The tails of the home team were now up and the goal appeared to knock the stuffing out of the visitors.
