CONGRATULATIONS to Liatroim Fontenoys Senior Hurlers who defeated Kilclief on Tuesday last to book their place in the Down Intermediate Final against Portaferry at the end of this month. Well done to the players and their management.
While the hurlers were busy progressing in their championship, sadly the footballers’ championship hopes came to an end on Friday night in Burren when they were defeated by Saval on a scoreline of 1.13 v 1.8. Top priority for the players and manageme
nt now is consolidating their position in Division 1 of the Down Football League for the coming year.
The Fontenoys extend heartiest congratulations to Down football legend, Paddy Doherty, who was inducted into the MBNA Cic Fada Hall of Fame during the past week. A fitting tribute to a great sportsman.
Congratulations also to the young camogie players of Castlewellan and their management on their victory over Ballycran in the U-12 Final on Saturday.
This fine achievement is made all the more noteworthy by the fact that the St.Malachy’s Camogie Club is only in it’s third year of existence, having been founded in 2006 by former inter-provincial player, Noreen Keown (nee O Prey). Noreen’s daughter, Aoife, most definitely a dual star of the future, raised the cup to the loud cheers of her team mates, all of whom contributed much to winning the first Camogie title for The Town.
It was certainly a very proud day for Aoife’s grandfather, Liatroim stalwart, Charlie Keown. Well done to Noreen, and the other members of the management team. Comhghairdeas libh.
