NOEL Cardwell's goal just after the half hour was enough to give Larne victory over Phil McDonagh's Dromara Village in the Steel and Sons Cup second round tie.

It was a frustrating performance from the Inver Reds and Dromara will feel aggrieved th
at they did not take the game to extra-time.

There were little in the way of openings during the first period, until Cardwell pounced for the winner.

Reid fizzed a corner in from the right which was met with low header by the captain, at the near post.

Larne should have doubled their lead going into the break when first Damian McLaughlin forced a goal line clearance with a header and then Liam Hartley did well to save from Ryan McLoughlin at close range.

In the second half Dromara forced the issue and struck the crossbar just after the hour mark, with Reece Moore doing well to head the rebound back on to the bar to clear.

Village continued to enjoy more of the ball but rarely managed to hit the target in their attempt to find an equaliser.

Bertie Fulton had a great chance to finish the contest late on, but he headed straight at Hartley, following a pinpoint cross from Dickson on the right.

- MEANWHILE Dromara exited the County Antrim Shield at the hands of IFA Premiership side Crusaders.

Goals from striker Davy Rainey and former Portadown defender Gareth McKeown sent the Crues on their way to victory.
