DUNBARTON'S junior team couldn't have wished for a better game in which to complete their league fixtures before the holiday period as they registered an emphatic victory against Cliftonville on Saturday.
The seven point haul lifts the Gilford men
into top position in the league, 2.5 points clear of Ballymena although the Co. Antrim men do have a game in hand.
Dunbarton don't play their next league game until Tuesday August 5 but know that if they win their remaining four fixtures they have a chance of claiming the league.
Saturday's game brought about a huge winning margin of 89 shots with all four Dunbarton rinks scoring over 30 shots each. Dunbarton had faced the same opposition three weeks previously in the PG Cup and had been given a close game on three of the four rinks.
However there was to be no repeat of this on Saturday as the Gilford men set about signing off on a real high. After five ends Dunbarton had opened up a nine shot advantage.
Paul Adamson's four were 7-3 ahead, David Beattie's rink had pulled 7-2 clear, Tom Greenfield's rink were 5-3 in front while Fergie Larkin's rink were trailing 5-3.
By 10 ends, the advantage had increased to 30 shots. Paul Adamson's rink were enjoying their afternoon and were winning 21-4. David Beattie's rink were 10-5 ahead, Tom Greenfield and his colleagues were still two shots clear at 10-8 while Fergie Larkin's rink were getting into top gear and led 14-8.
The victory looked secure and it was now only a case of how many shots the juniors were going to win by. The home side had no intention of easing off though and by 15 ends they were now 64 shots clear overall.
Paul Adamson's rink were winning 27-7, David Beattie's rink were 22-5 ahead, Tom Greenfield's rink were leading 21-12 while Fergie Larkin's rink were winning 28-10.
The pattern continued over the last few ends and Dunbarton ran out very comfortable winners. Paul Adamson's rink won 34-10, David Beattie's rink amassed a 31-6 win, Tom Greenfield's rink won comfortably 32-13 and Fergie Larkin's rink completed a perfect afternoon for the home side winning 35-14.
This victory sends the juniors into their PG quarter-final tie with Willowfield in a very confident mood but they are likely to face a much sterner test on Thursday evening.
