Midweek team in the Knock-out Shield final

AN 11-shot victory over the current league champions Warrenpoint saw Dromore Mid-Week Bowling Team through to the final of the Knock-out Shield to be played at Newry Bowling Club tonight (Tuesday) 2nd September at 5.30.
Local rivals Banbridge having beaten Kilkeel last week will provide the opposition. It was anticipated that the semi final would be a close match and so it proved to be with two Dromore rinks winning and two losing.

The rink of D. Graham, I. Houst
on, J. Noddings and H. Maxwell had a real ding dong battle against the rink skipped by T. Hanna going into the last end only one shot up they scored three shots to finish four in front.

The ladies rink of M. Adair, M. Dawson, L. Aiken and C. Ogle who had been the home sides’ saviour many times during the season in another very tight game finished just three shots down against E. McKenna.

Dromore rink of R. Elliott, R. Greer, D. Kane and V. Sudlow got off to a slow start against the Warrenpoint rink skipped by I. Gilmore but battled back well and finished only three shots in arrears. George Dawson’s rink of W. McCullough, W. Clingham. and R. McCandless were in control of this encounter from early on and were never headed at any stage during their game finishing ahead by thirteen shots against S. O’Hare.

There was no joy for Dromore Junior team in their last game of the season against Banbridge last Wednesday evening going down twenty three shots and only one point.

A bad five ends saw the juniors down by fifteen with no rinks ahead Malcomson down four McCrum three Beattie two and Sudlow by six.

At the halfway stage the juniors were still in a bad position down by twenty four shots Malcomson still down by four McCrum now behind by eight Beattie at three with Sudlow now nine in arrears.

At three quarter stage Dromore had held on at twenty four down, the only bright news was Malcomson now ahead by two McCrum was still going the wrong road to be thirteen down Beattie had also lost ground to be eighteen in arrears while Sudlow was five in the red.

In the final six ends the score remained something the same as the Bann finished twenty three ahead Malcomson finished on a good evening for him at twelve ahead McCrum twelve ahead Beattie with a bad run in to finish at twenty down while Sudlow finished three in arrears.

The first local Tournament of the Indoor Bowling season starts on Monday 22 September at 1st Dromore Presbyterian Church running through the week with Saturday 27 September being finals night. It is a Singles tournament and for an entry ring Tom Sudlow 02892 692561 or Marie Ward 02892 692159.
