LAST Friday night saw Dromore Amateurs FC hold a match against a Dromore Amateurs Old Boys team at Dromore Community Centre to kick start the club's 50th anniversary celebrations.
There was a huge air of excitement around the town beforehand and it was no surprise to see over 200 locals turn out to watch a very entertaining game.
The Old Boys were all eager to impress and were all out on the pitch 30 minutes before kick off
warming-up and teasing the crowd with their sublime skills.
The first half saw both sides fully committed and some spirited tackles from both defences defied an opening goal in the first half. The opening goal was scored by the current squad just after the re-start much to the dismay of the large crowd but the Old Boys never relented and scored a couple of goals themselves.
The first of these was scored by Julian Kelly after a subtle bit of chest control from Wayne Beggs. The second was a clinker from Rod Neill from the edge of the box which gave the Dromore keeper no chance.
The pick of the Dromore goals was a headed goal by Ricky Copeland and a long range effort from Neville Walsh.
A very good night was had by all, and the word on the street, is watch this space as the Old Boys might make another appearance this season.
The Old Boys team consisted of Paul Rodgers, Roger McCartan, Gerard Mulgrew, Squeak, Alan Ogle, Paul McKinstry, Gavin Beck, Wayne Beggs, Mickey McGreevey, Brian Lyndsay, Davey McDonald, Colin Jameson, Brian Mulholland, Sterling White, Jim Gracey, Freddie Davidson, John McGuiness, Keith Halliday, Julian Kelly, Simon Kelly, Aubrey Davidson, Hooker McDonald, Rod Neill, Eddie Beattie.
Dromore Amateurs would like to thank Roy Livingstone from Dromore Meats for sponsoring the match and Banbridge Council for their help and use of facilities at Holm Park.
This Saturday Dromore Amateurs continue their pre-season build-up with a friendly against County Down Rangers at Dromore Community Centre at 2pm.
