THREE goals in the opening eight minutes set the Under-11s on their way to three points and left Lisburn Wanderers still searching for their first win in the Lisburn League.

But while Banbridge deserved their victory, the massive points gap betwee
n the teams wasn't apparent as Wanderers fought back to make a real game of it.

It didn't take the locals long to get into their stride at Lisburn venue Rushmore last Saturday morning with only one minute played when the opening goal arrived.

Good work by Reese McInerney set up the chance for Callum Adamson and he took advantage of some defensive hesitancy to knock the ball home.

Joel Copes added number two when his sweetly struck shot from the edge of the box found the roof of the net on five minutes.

Three minutes later it was 3-0 with Joel Copes again finding the net with a clinical finish after Reese McInerney had been denied by the woodwork.

It was the second week in a row that Banbridge had raced into an early three goal lead but Wanderers, despite their lowly position, didn't let their heads drop.

A super strike from the right flank gave local keeper Andrew Wilson no chance after 11 minutes.

And five minutes later it was 3-2 as Wanderers took advantage of some defensive hesitancy to punish the locals again.

Banbridge soon restored their two goal advantage when Nathan Weir slipped the ball to Reese McInerney on the left and he picked his spot with an angled drive across the keeper and into the net.

After six goals in the opening 21 minutes it was perhaps no great surprise that there was a lull in the goalmouth action until half-time.

It continued into the second half as the locals struggled to assert their authority on the match.

Clear cut chances were few and far between as Banbridge failed to find any rhythm in the second half, with Andrew Wilson called into action midway through the half to protect the two goal lead.

In the closing minutes Wanderers were denied a third goal by the woodwork, while Luke Jardine almost made it five for Banbridge.

After such a great start this was ultimately a below par performance from the locals who will have to step up a level for this Saturday's top of the table clash with Lisburn Youth at Dromore.

Team v Lisburn Wanderers: Andrew Wilson, Peter Maxwell, Neil Cherry, Brian Johnston, Nathan Weir, Daniel Devlin, Joel Copes, Curtis Stewart, Reese McInerney, Callum Adamson, Luke Jardine, Christopher Burns.
