A YOUNG Scarva Rangers side made the best possible start to the new league campaign with this comprehensive midweek victory.
The new look Scarva team had no less than five players making their competitive first team debuts.
Visitors Goodyear, r
elegated from Mid-Ulster Division One at the end of last season, stunned the home side with a goal after only two minutes but it stung Scarva into life and they were soon back on level terms.
Ryan Dodds supplied a dangerous cross from the left and his brother Nathan reacted sharply inside the penalty area, hammering the ball into the roof of the net.
It should have been a warning to the Goodyear defence but they couldn't get to grips with the lively Scarva striker who struck for a second time in the match, supplying a finish of even greater quality than the first.
Dodds turned sharply to shake off his marker and fired a venomous shot high into the net.
Right midfielder Danny Cullen had an impressive competitive debut and he supplied two high quality corner kicks that led to Scarva's third and fourth goals.
Another debutant, talented young centre half David Kerr, fired the third home from close range and the home side's fourth came from a fine Rod Douglas header.
Douglas almost scored a second, unleashing a curling shot that swept over the bar after superb build-up play involving Cullen and Nathan Dodds.
Substitute Adam Topping went even closer, nicking the ball off the Goodyear keeper after he unwisely ventured outside his penalty area, but his shot clipped the base of the post and back into play.
Scarva didn't have it all their own way in the second half, however, the visitors providing more than a few anxious moments for the home side, and goalkeeper Stephen Craig had to pull off an eye catching low save from a dangerous curling free kick.
