Despite being promoted, it was a disappointing end to the cricket season for Academy IVs who failed to clinch the title after they lost their final match.

Adam Wilson’s lads travelled to Saintfield on Saturday needing a win to clinch the Junior League Section 7 crown, but they lost by seve wickets in a 20 overs fixture. However, they go up along with Muckamore IV.

Ian Moffett (73) and Niall Greenlees (58) scored the bulk of the runs as Academy posted 160 for three, but the hosts coasted to victory when they replied with 161 for three, while the Academy wicket-takers were David McLarnon, skipper Wilson and Moffett.

“We have now got quite a number of promising young cricketers at the club,” said Wilson.

“And over the past two years I have been operating mainly with the same group of lads, most of whom are still at school or university.

“Luca Johnston is only 14, but he has been performing well all season as have 19-year-olds Andy Martin and Niall Greenlees, so we are delighted to have secured back-to-back titles and are looking forward to playing at the higher grade next season.”
