Academy players and officials were left bitterly disappointed when persistent drizzle forced the umpires to abandon Saturday’s Junior Cup semi-final against North Down II when a home win seemed on the cards.

The hosts had started promisingly, restricting North Down II to 132 at Castle Grounds with Andre Halbert and Mitchell Atkins putting 25 runs on the board after six overs. But the match will have to be replayed in its entirety.

“The abandonment was a get out of jail card for North Down,” said club stalwart, Jim McCall.

“Hopefully we will put them to the sword in the replay at Castle Grounds on Sunday (July 27).”

Meanwhile, Adam Sloan’s 3rd XI consolidated their top spot in Junior League Section 6 by defeating Donaghadee II by 20 runs.

Summary: Academy III 139 for 9. Connor Boyd 45. Donaghadee II 119. Niall Greenlees 3 for 7, Connor Boyd 2 for 17.
