Boyce set to be chief guest at Blues friendly

HONORARY Life President of the Irish Football Association, Jim Boyce, will be the chief guest at the official opening of Ballyclare Comrades' new grandstand on Tuesday (August 3) when the reds meet the might of Linfield in a pre-season friendly.

Accompanied by guests from the football fraternity, Mr Boyce will unveil a plaque to commemorate the historic occasion prior to kick-off.

"This will indeed be a red letter day in the history of Ballyclare Comrades Football Club," said chairman Trevor McCann. "I never thought that we would see such a complex at Dixon Park, where we now have three sides of the ground with covered accommodation, in addition to over four hundred seats.

"Club stalwarts from the past like Bob Girvan, Bob Blair, Bobby Baird, Billy Wicklow and Bert McMeekin, who were all such dedicated fans of the Comrades, would be delighted with the present stadium. They and others like them from their generation laid the foundation for the present club, and we owe them a debt of gratitude.

"The red seats add a welcome touch of cover to the ground, and we are now giving anyone interested in the Comrades the opportunity to purchase a seat for 100. Each seat purchased will be inscribed with an appropriate inscription, and I commend this money-raising seat sponsorship scheme to supporters and the wider community," ended Trevor.

Meanwhile season tickets eligible for all home league fixtures are now on sale costing 60, with a reduced rate of 35 for Under 16s and senior citizens. Other concession rates include 70 for 1 adult and up to 2 Under 16s; and 40 for a youth team parent/guardian.

Gordon Chambers' lads complete their programme of friendlies with Newington Rangers, away on Saturday 31st, and Rosario away on Thursday 5th August, but the visit of reigning Premier League and Irish Cup winners, Linfield, (kick-off 7.45 pm) is the one that will appeal to all Blues and Reds fans from a wide area.
