Comrades players selected for junior international squad

LATER this month three Ballyclare Comrades players will be off to the European Junior International Championships.

Manager Harry McConkey has informed Scott Irvine, Mark McClelland and skipper Andy Forsythe that they will be included in the squad for the tournament that takes place from 24 - 30 September.

Forsythe was rather harshly sent off in the weekend's clash with Dergview for picking up two yellow cards, and when manager Gordon Chambers questioned the decision he was promptly given a straight red along with kit man Francie Lorimer.

Already in the first half, full back Mark Hadden had also been given the early bath treatment, so the visit to Castlederg will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Commenting on the game, Gordon Chambers said: "The card-happy referee showed scant respect to players and officials. He agreed to have a chat with me after he showered, but he failed to keep the appointment. I was not at all happy about the four red cards, and felt that we had been harshly treated."

Meanwhile, the Comrades have no game this weekend, with their next fixture being a trip to Loughgall in the second round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup on Saturday 18, quickly followed by an away local derby against Carrick Rangers on Tuesday 21.

Recent signing Paul Hughes, who has had goalkeeping experience with PSNI and Dundela, is currently side-lined with an ankle injury, but should soon be available for selection.
