Comrades face DC back-to-back at Dixon Park

FOLLOWING Saturday's postponed cup tie because of the freezing weather conditions, Ballyclare Comrades now host back-to-back clashes with Donegal Celtic.

This weekend's scheduled league fixture against Glebe Rangers has been postponed, with the WKD Intermediate Cup tie against 'DC' taking precedence, then three days later on Tuesday 9th, the 'Wee Hoops' will be back at Dixon Park to fulfil a rearranged Championship Division 1 fixture.

This starts an unprecedented sequence of eight consecutive matches at Dixon Park, beginning with Glentoran in the JJB Irish Cup on 13th, followed by Loughgall 20th, Larne 27th, Bangor 6th March, Ards 13th and Ballymoney 20th, with the possibility of the postponed Glebe Rangers game also being shoe-horned in.

The Ards match is listed as an away fixture, but with the two clubs ground-sharing the venue will still be Dixon Park.

Reflecting on the situation manager Gordon Chambers said: "This sequence of home matches will give the fans an opportunity to keep an eye on the major redevelopment of the ground. Work is progressing well on the construction of a new grandstand with over a hundred seats, and also on the re-seating in the existing stand.

"We are still on schedule to stage the glamour Glentoran Irish Cup tie in Ballyclare, and hopefully the work will be completed by the time we have our next away fixture at the end of March.

"For Saturday's Intermediate Cup tie against Donegal Celtic we will be at full strength, except for Ronnie Burns and David Officer (suspension) and Ricky Lecky (injured). Officer will be free for the second clash with Celtic on Tuesday evening, but Burns will miss both Celtic games, as well as the one against Glentoran.

"On the positive side we will have Sam McWilliams back, and Andy Long should have fully recovered from an ankle knock picked up in the win against Bangor.

"Donegal Celtic are one of the top teams in the Championship, but we are the form team having lost only once in the past eleven outings, so we will not be short of confidence," added Gordon.
