Connor wins City of Belfast President’s Cup

In perfect conditions and with the greens specially prepared for the day by Stephen Steel and his team, Connor Devlin won President’s Day at City of Belfast GC (Mallusk) with an excellent score of 43 points.

Connor took the President’s Cup and the gross prize by a clear margin of four points. The low section was won by Collin Brown (39), Stephen Gardiner (39) was second, with Thomas Lavery third (39). The high section was won by Robert McKibben (34), with Gordon Buchanan (34) second and Ian Smyth third (33).

The visitors’ prize was taken by John McConnell (33) with Hugh Thompson, Stephen Steele, Connor Devlin, Robert McKibbon and Tommy Pollock nearest the pins and Thomas Lavery taking the longest drive.

As is traditional, the competition was preceded by breakfast in the clubhouse, with brunch after nine holes followed by dinner and prize presentation in the Chimney Corner Hotel. The president, Peter Long, congratulated all the prize winners and thanked the clubhouse staff for an excellent day and the greens staff on making it such a special day with the course the real winner, seeing only four players breaking par.

Peter thanked the members and visitors for contributing £200 on the day to this year’s Captain’s Charity, the Alzhemeimers Society.
