Crusaders in town on Saturday

FANS OF Ballyclare Comrades get their first taste of pre-season action on Saturday afternoon when Crusaders will be in town.

With Stephen Baxter's lads involved in European competition he is keen to have his side match fit, so he brings his Premier League outfit to Dixon Park for the clash that has a three o'clock kick-off.

Comrades supremo, Gordon Chambers, hopes to parade his three new signings - Mark McClelland, Scott Irvine and Keith Armstrong - who have been training with the Reds during the past fortnight.

Irvine and Armstrong are midfielders from Barn United and Chimney Corner respectively, while McClelland is a former Northern Ireland schoolboy international who has been with Carrick Rangers.

Meanwhile Eddie Hill has moved in the opposite direction to Taylor's Avenue, much to the disappointment of Chambers.

"Midway through last season Eddie announced his retirement, but remained with the club to assist with the Reserves," stated Gordon.

"Carrick manager, Stephen Small, requested permission to speak with Eddie, and the outcome was Eddie signing for Rangers. I am disappointed at losing such a skilful player, whose experience would have been invaluable to our young side. However we wish him all the best with Carrick."

"Meanwhile, we have had thirty-six players taking part in our four training stints to date, and we should be well prepared for our seven pre-season friendlies against four Premier League sides and three junior ones," added Gordon.

Following Saturday's home game against Crusaders, Comrades travel to Mossley YM on Thursday 16th, before entertaining Dungannon Swifts on Saturday 18th to coincide with the club's annual Open Day.
