Cup victory for Dromore U13s at Dungannon

Dungannon Youth U13 1

Dromore Amateurs Youth U13 2

DROMORE’S U13s went to Tannaghmore Gardens on March 6 fresh from a 2-1 league win against Dungannon for a cup game with the same opponents.

Both teams made light work of a heavy pitch with the entertaining encounter starting off at a good tempo, neither side allowing the other to dwell on the ball. Frontman Daniel Abraham had a great chance in the opening minutes but struck straight at the keeper.

At the other end sweeper Stuart Wilson was making sure keeper Neil Herron didn't have to be on his toes on many occasions, however it was the Tyrone team that drew first blood from a free kick on the right.

A powerful shot came direct from the free toward Herron's near post and despite getting two hands to the ball it was parried into the net.

Dromore then went in search of a deserved equaliser and it also came from a free. Ben Martin went on a run through the Dungannon defence and was brought down, the referee adjudging it to be right on the edge of the box. For the second week in a row big stopper Robert Gibson stepped forward and unleashed a shot right into the top corner.

As the clock ticked toward half-time Dromore continued to push for the lead but the score remained 1-1 as the whistle went.

The second half saw striker Callum Barnes come on and immediately make a difference, wing-back Jack Rice making way and Jamie Hawthorne and Abraham both moving back a position.

Dromore continued to push, in particular wing-back Kyle Shakesby forging forward at every opportunity.

Midway through the half and Abraham went on a run, slotting a defence-splitting pass through for Barnes who made no mistake and powered the ball under the keeper to give Dromore the lead.

Substitute Nathan Thompson joined in the attacks and set up a couple of good chances but the scoreline remained at 2-1.

At the back Herron twice cleared impressively, once from a corner and the other a through ball and as the whistle went it was Dromore who took the spoils in a repeat of the previous week's scoreline.

The KS Home and Garden Services man of the match for Dromore was the ever-dependable Stuart Wilson with a dominant display at sweeper.

Team: Herron, Shakesby, Rice (Barnes), Simpson, Gibson, Wilson (c), McConville, Martin, Hawthorne, Cunningham (Thompson), Abraham.
