When the visitors arrived at Mallusk with only 10 players the odds were stacked against them, and with bowlers Adam Montgomery and Luca Johnston in fine form they were skittled out for 81 in 24.5 overs with L Murdoch top-scoring on 36.

Montgomery was the most successful bowler with figures of 4-12, ahead of Johnston with 3-18. Andy Bell claimed one victim, while Adam Wilson caused the run-out with a neat return to wicketkeeper Andrew Kirkpatrick.

Academy made sure of the points for the loss of two wickets in 15 overs. Reid and Niall Greenlees opened the batting, and after the departure of Greenlees and Christian O’Connor, it was left to Reid and Kirkpatrick to secure victory.

The win keeps Adam Sloan’s lads in joint-second alongside Carrick, each with four wins from six.

Academy’s Chris Magee said: “Adam (Montgomery) and Luca (Johnston) bowled economically while the lads held on to their catches, so wickets kept tumbling, leaving us 82 to win, and with David Reid scoring freely, we coasted to an early finish in 15 overs.”

The seniors were due to entertain Downpatrick, but this NCU Section 1 fixture was postponed owing to Downpatrick being involved in the Challenge Cup.

Weekend fixtures: 1st XI v Lurgan; Carrick III v 3rd XI (Sunday); Armagh III v 4th XI.
