CRICKET REVIEW: Templepatrick exit Junior Cup

After bowling BISC out for 160 in 41 overs, skipper Ross Bryans fancied his chances with only 18 runs needed off 18 balls, but when the umpires ruled that play could not continue the Duckworth-Lewis calculations revealed that TCC with 140 for 8 on the board had fallen short of the revised 142 total by two runs.

“It was a very disappointing way to be knocked out of thcompetition,” said TCC Cricket Development Officer Andy McCrea. “During our three seasons in Section 1 we were not eligible to compete for it, so on our return to Section 2 we had it in our sights, but it has passed us by in rather unfortunate circumstances.”

Templepatrick were on top right from the start with the visitors reduced to 41 for 5. Following a rain intervention the wet ball was more difficult to control, so the batsmen recovered to post 160, without using nine of their allotted 50 overs.

In reply, James Jackson, Artie Campbell and Bryans were back in the pavilion with only 16 on the scorecard after four overs.

In came 16-year-old Adam Clarke who anchored the innings with a marvellous knock of 60 not-out, with solid support from Michael Stewart (21 not-out) and they seemed set to chalk up the required runs.

With victory in sight bad light stopped play, and BISC prevailed by two runs courtesy the Duckworth-Lewis system.

TCC Seconds

n Templepatrick’s 2nd XI got their season off to a winning start in Junior League Section 3 with a win by 11 runs against Civil Service North at Hollinger Park.

Having been put in, a first-wicket partnership of 91 between Chris Busby (33) and McCrea (40) followed by a useful 27 from Gareth Lutton, laid the foundation for a fine total of 150 for 5 in 35 overs.

In reply CSN managed only 139 for 8. Peter Shepherd spearheaded the home attack with 18 for 3 off seven overs, with support from Chris Busby (2), Nick Kane (2) and David Caldwell (1), while Rory Dorman bowled economically without claiming any scalps.
