It means a league double for 18th not to mention their Irish Cup success on the same ground. They are the only 1C team to have beaten Garry Campbell’s men over 90 minutes this season.

“Eighteenth seem to have something over us at the minute,” Campbell admitted. “It was our last chance to get at them this season and I think we all expected it to be closer. Maybe it would have been had we got a penalty at 0-0. It was a definite hand-to-ball but the referee didn’t give it.

“Eighteenth have a style of football that puts the back four under pressure and on the day we just didn’t cope. We made mistakes, gave away goals and didn’t create enough at the other end. The only real football we played was late on to make it 5-2. I just don’t know why we didn’t do that earlier.

“We just didn’t perform, but I’m sure they’d swop this result for where we are in the league. As far as I’m concerned, it’s done and dusted and we need to move on to the next game.”

Despite the defeat, Mossley move up to third after Dunmurry YM their next opponents were docked 15 points.

Joint 18th manager Mark Miskimmin suggested: “From start to finish, there was only one team in it; we absolutely destroyed them.

“In the 11 games since I arrived, we’ve won nine, drawn one and lost one. It’s all too late to put us in the mix this year but I’ve always said we’re building for next season, and it’s looking good!”
