The Barn boys are now seven points adrift of third-bottom Orangefield in Division 1A. They have three matches in hand, but United have only won two of their 18 league games to date.

Barn manager Tommy Kincaid maintained: “The performance was a lot better than at Dromara last week. We had plenty of chances, but they’re just not going in. But when attacking you’re at your most vulnerable at the back and we tend to switch off and lose concentration.”

Barn’s marksmen were Andy Kane (penalty) and Paul Mathers. They’re back in action on Tuesday night at Abbey Villa before welcoming Rathfriland Rangers on Thursday.

Also in 1A, Larne Tech grabbed their third away win of the campaign, winning 3-0 at 1st Bangor.

Player-manager Johnny Hastings said: “We were comfortable without playing that well. Chris Keenan made an excellent one-on-one save at 0-0 and that was their only real threat. A poor enough game, and we still won 3-0. I’d take that every week. All good!”

Tech’s goals came from Neil Webb, Chris Agnew and Ciaran Kelly.

The entertainment rating was higher at the Factory Grounds in a 2-2 draw between Nortel and Albert Foundry.

Nortel boss Lee McCartney said: “It was a really good game even though neither team were going for anything. It was end-to-end and could have ended up six each!

“It’s a sign of how far we’ve progressed that we’re disappointed with a point.”

Nortel’s goalscorers were Timmy Clarke and Adam Richmond.

In 1C, Mossley recovered from their midweek defeat at Bangor Swifts, even though it was Saintfield who went marching into the lead at the Glade. Back though came Mossley through Lee Graham and Kyle Crowe.

Also in 1C, 18th Newtownabbey had a fine 4-2 victory at Dunmurry YM; Glenn Miskimmin, Matthew Sellars, Mark Miskimmin and Jordan Kernaghan got their goals. There was disappointment, however, for Newington Rangers who now go bottom after losing their ‘six-pointer’ at Groomsport. It was their 13th league defeat on the spin.

in 1B, Wellington Rec said farewell to Brookvale Park for the season with a point against champions Ballynahinch Olympic.

Hinch had to come from behind after Dean Shaw had given Rec an early second-half advantage. Wellington had the last word with a last-gasp penalty from Scott Todd, after Michael Moore was fouled.
