Charity match

1st Newtownabbey Linfield Supporters’ Club will hold its annual Billy Neill charity match on Friday, August 19 at The Diamond, Rathcoole.

This year the match is in aid of the “Gis-a-Hug foundation” which was set up to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning following the tragic deaths of Newtownabbey teenagers Neil McFerran and Aaron Davidson in Castlerock a year ago.

The match this year will again be between a Mervyn Bell, ex-Irish League select and a 1st Newtownabbey LSC select, managed by Lee Doherty. The match kicks off at 6.45pm.

Ex-Linfield players, Glenn Ferguson, Wes Lamont, Kel McDermott, Stephen Beatty, Stephen Baxter, to name but a few, plus the Linfield assistant manager Brian McLaughlin are expected to turn out for the 1st Newtownabbey LSC select.

Match tickets cost £1 minimum donation and can be bought on the evening of the game.

After the game, spectators are invited to meet the former players in the Allen Hall.
