Northern Ireland Regions’ Cup manager Harry McConkey has named four Ballyclare Comrades players his squad for the Group 5 Intermediary round mini tournament in Moldova which is set to take place later this month.
Goalkeeper Paddy Flood, striker Chris Trussell and defenders Kyle Buckley and Andrew Doyle have been named in an 18-strong panel.
Northern Ireland will play ARF Telenesti (Moldova) on September 23 followed by a game against AF Piatykhatska (Ukraine) on September 25 with the final game against Selección Catalana (Spain) on September 27.
The quartet’s selection is big recognition for the Dixon Park outfit who boast more players than any other Championship club.
For Trussell, in particular, it’s another major boost for the in-form striker who landed the winning goal to send Linfield crashing out of the League Cup last month. His goalscoring record at Ballyclare is truly exceptional. He has netted 51 times in 55 appearances and is averaging a goal in every other game this term.
Don’t miss this week’s Times as we speak to Reds’ assistant-manager Gary Bell about being paired with Ballymena United in the League Cup and the form of striker, Chris Trussell.
