HAT-TRICKS by teenagers Daniel Ellis and Aaron Lindsay laid the foundation for Ballyclare Comrades Reserves’ massive double figures win in their last game before the Christmas break.
Eight behind at the interval, Glebe Rangers Reserves were eventually thrashed 13-1 at Threemilewater Park in a Ballymena Junior League Division 1 fixture.
After Ellis opened the scoring Glebe hit back immediately in the 10th minute, but that was as good as it got for the Ballymoney lads.
Skipper Pod Lynch restored his side’s lead three minutes later, and then followed strikes by Ricky MacAuley, Niall McErlean, Harry Spence and Aaron Ibinson before Ellis 9 (who has been training recently with the senior squad) increased his tally to four with a late hat-trick; so the rampant Reds were out of sight at 9-1 at the interval.
In the second session talented left-sided midfielder Lindsay rattled in his treble, and Jonathan Boyd also got his name on the scorecard.
After the match the Glebe manager said Lindsay was the best player he had seen this season and reckoned that he has a bright future ahead of him.
